French director Nora El Hourch gets accepted to Cannes with her debut feature. 10 years ago Nora made a short film about sexual assault and a decade later she made a feature film around the same theme. Nora speaks with ARBL Murray (Alexandra Lynn) and Manon Kerjean about the making of the film.
The Film HLM Pussy centers around three girls in the Paris suburbs dealing with differences in class, race, and privilege-- when a sexual assault occurs they all grapple with how to deal with it in their own way and the different pressures it creates for each of them.

This week in This is not a poem Elliott KB looks into American poet Mary Oliver’s Spring alongside poet and artist Clairette Durand-Gasselin, who has a personal translation of the text.
Bringing up questions like “why does this poem make me cry?” and “how do we translate the untranslatable?”, they discuss how a person’s reading of a poem can be intimately personal, the beauty of nature, and how seemingly plain English can evoke overwhelming emotions.
Who is Mary Oliver?
Mary Oliver (September 10, 1935 – January 17, 2019) was an acclaimed American poet celebrated for her deep connection to nature. Born in Ohio, USA, Oliver’s poetry, marked by lyrical reflections on the natural world, gained widespread acclaim with her Pulitzer Prize-winning collection, “American Primitive” (1983), followed by other accolades.
Guest Speaker, Clairette Durand-Gasselin
Clairette Durand-Gasselin is a bilingual poet and visual artist. She’s currently completing her Master’s in Literary Translation at Université Paris Cité. During her eight years in the United States, she co-founded Mad Gleam Press, a small bilingual publishing house. She is now secretary and blog editor at Paris Lit Up.

In this episode we talk about the new Documentary: Even If You Go To The Moon or “Même si tu vas sur la lune”, A film about a group of young Syrians with refugee status living in Paris. Sara, Hassan, Gietth, and Kiree all attend a program at the Sorbonne in which they are able to learn French and continue their studies from their schools in Syria prior to leaving.
The film utilizes color, black and white, and animation to tell the full story. Director Laurent Rodriguez and Sara Kontar who is in the film and also did the animations for the film, talk with Manon and ARBL about their experience making the documentary.
